What’s the difference between repair and refinishing?

Repair addresses a small section or several small sections of woodwork. It’s something that needs a bit of fixing up and is mostly cosmetic work.
Refinishing requires stripping off the existing finish, repairing any blemishes, and a restaining/resealing process.

Repair can usually be accomplished within a couple of hours.
Refinishing can take up to a couple days depending on the size of the item and its condition.
Equipment
Repair is typically done with easily transported, common tools.
Refinishing requires power tools of all sizes and, for this reason, may have to be accomplished off-site.
